Created for the Central Saint Martins BA Fine Art degree show, A Hand on the Pulse, a Foot in the Fire is a kinetic sculpture exploring climate anxiety and the paradox of agency in the face of ecological collapse. Powered by a linear actuator, the sculpture responds to climate discourse from the previous five years, using news API data to accelerate with increased media attention and slow as discussion fades. Suspended from the ceiling and accompanied by a screen displaying live news headlines, the work reflects on emotional burnout, performative environmental discourse, and the disconnect between awareness and meaningful systemic change.
Paper-making workshop hosted in the Department of Tube-ology, a space created by Jade Zaheer and Jiaqi (Kiki) Zheng for workshops, discussions, and collective gatherings.
Using scrap paper collected from across the Fine Art department, participants were invited to transform discarded materials into new handmade sheets, reflecting on processes of reuse, collaboration, and material circulation. The workshop created a space for conversation and collective making, extending the life of the department's remnants beyond the exhibition itself.
